Obituary of Walter L. Wilson

Putnam - Walter L. Wilson, Jr. "Jack", 79, formerly of Pomfret and Putnam passed away at Matulaitis Nursing Home on Monday, April 20, 2009. Born in Foster, RI on February 18, 1930, son of Alice R. and Walter L. Wilson, Sr. Walter grew up in Elliott, CT and attended the Elliott and Abington Schools. He graduated from Putnam Technical School in 1955. Walter served for the US Navy on the USS Braine from 1950-1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal (European Clasp). Walter was predeceased by his wife, Vivian Veilleux, who passed away August 14, 2008. They were married May 5, 1956, at St. Joseph Church in North Grosvenordale, CT. Walter was an active Seventh Degree member of the Wolf Den Grange in Abington. He served as a Webelo Den Leader for the Boy Scouts for many years. He retired from Pratt & Whitney in 1995. Upon his retirement, he spent several years driving limousines for Andrea's Limousine Service. Walter is survived by his five children: Jacqueline Audette and her husband, Raymond Audette of Thompson; Walter Wilson III and his wife Debbie Wilson of Putnam; David Wilson and his wife, Donna Wilson of Plainfield; Susan LaCoille and her husband Randy LaCoille of Putnam; Alice Blanchard of Putnam. Walter was blessed with nine grandchildren; he was predeceased by Valerie Wilson and Paul L. Walmsley. His surviving grandchildren include: Aaron Audette; Jillian Audette; Dan Blanchard and his wife, Jacquelyn; Mark LaCoille; Rebecca Lafortune and her husband, Tim; Eric Wilson and Jonathan Wilson. Walter was also a great grandfather to Avery Blanchard, Calista Blanchard and Connor Lafortune. Walter is survived by two sisters, Mildred Cole of Belchertown, MA and Marjorie Brown of Danielson, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Harold R. (Bob) Castonguay, Donald P. Castonguay, Dorothy Snell Williams, Pauline Murraco and a son-in-law Bruce Blanchard. The funeral service will be Monday April 27th at 10:30 am from the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret Center, CT. Calling hours from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday, April 26th at the Funeral Home. Burial in Abington Cemetery with Military Honors.
