Obituary of Laurent J. Provost

Laurent J. "Larry" Provost, 84 of Ware Road, Dayville, CT, died Sunday morning, April 5, 2009 at the Westview Health Care Center in Dayville. Husband of Irene (Bousquet) Provost, they were married September 27, 1947, In St. Mary Church, Putnam. He was born April 16, 1924 in Thompson, son of the late Louis and Clara (Bushey) Provost. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the US Army in the Company B, 711th Tank Battalion, honorably discharged May 8, 1946. He spent his childhood in Pomfret, moving to Dayville in 1958. He was employed by First National Grocery Stores for over twenty years, he also owned and operated Provost Market in Attawaugan for over fifteen years, worked for Salo Construction in Johnston, RI and was a truck driver for Danielson Aviation. He was a life member of the Attawaugan Volunteer Fire Department, serving as captain. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards. Larry was a member of the American Legion, VFW and the Knights of Columbus. He leaves his wife Irene and four sons: Alan Provost of West Haven, CT; Denis Provost of Putnam; Mark Provost of Thompson; Paul Provost of Norwich; a daughter: Maryann Mercier of Plainfield; a brother: Lucien Provost of NV; four sisters: Jeanne Fisk of Torrance, CA; Aurore Demers of, NC; Loraine Richards of Putnam; Claire Dion of Canterbury, CT; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandchild Ann Marie Provost and his siblings Romeo, Lillian and Theresa. Funeral from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, Wednesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, CT. Calling Hours are Tuesday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Wednesday, 8:30 to 9:30 AM. Burial in ST Mary Cemetery, Putnam with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Recreational Fund c/o of the Westview Health Care Center, 150 Ware Road, Dayville, CT 06241.
