Obituary of Ernest J. Provencher

Ernest J. Provencher, 86, of Woodstock, formerly of Danielson, died April 1, 2009 in Worcester. He was the beloved husband of the late E. Lucille (Jeffryes) Provencher, she died July 3, 1996; they were married August 3, 1947 in Gering, Nebraska. He was born September 24, 1922 in Woonsocket, RI, son of the late Thomas and Aurore (Marquis) Provencher. Ernie started his career in 1938 working for Henry Myers at Myers' Market in Danielson. In 1962 Myers' Market was sold to Universal Food's, he continued to work for Universal before purchasing the Store in 1972 and renaming it Ernie's Food Store, where he owned and operated it for 24 years before selling in 1996. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Danielson. He served as a Scout leader to pack #43 for several years. Ernie was also a member of the Woodstock Country Dancer's, where he enjoyed square dancing for over 20 years with his wife. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He leaves his children: Bruce Provencher and his wife Donna of Dayville; Suzanne Cimochowski and her husband John of Woodstock; Sandra Anton and her husband Andrew of North Potomac MD; a brother Richard Provencher of Dayville; grandchildren: Lindsey Cimochowski and her husband Brad Rufleth of Somerville, MA; Brad Provencher and his wife Therese of Gaithersburg, MD; Kyle Provencher of Dayville; Matthew Cimochowski of Woodstock; Tyler Anton of North Potomac, MD; a great granddaughter Grace Rodriguez, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters: Lillian Tomasik; Dolores Gluck; Doris Hopkins. A Celebration of Ernie's Life will be Saturday, April 11, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the Danielson United Methodist Church, 9 Spring Street Danielson, CT. Burial in Quassett Cemetery Woodstock. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Memorial Fund of the Danielson United Methodist Church, 253 Westcott Rd. Danielson, CT 06239.
