Obituary of John R. Blake
John R. Blake, 83, of Chase Road Thompson, died Friday morning at the Matulaitis Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn L. Morris Blake. They were married June 5, 1948. He was born May 7, 1925 in Providence, RI.
He was a maintenance mechanic working for American Optical and later for Frito Lay, retiring in 1987. Following retirement he worked over 15 years for Rawson Manufacturing. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Marine Corps, a member of the Cornerstone Lodge AF & AM, Thompson Hill Fire Department, the American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed working around his home and his yard and could fix anything.
He leaves his wife Marilyn of sixty years, a son: Dr. Robert Blake and his wife Charlene of Guilford, two grandchildren: Bryan Blake of New York City, Elizabeth Blake of Guilford.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling hour from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Monday. Burial will be in East Thompson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Cornerstone Lodge, 64 Chase Road, Thompson, CT 06277 or the Thompson Hill Fire Department, 70 Chase Road, Thompson, CT 06277.
