Obituary of Richard J. Trahan

Richard Trahan, 87 of Woodstock Valley, died Friday at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte (Charron) Trahan. Born November 9, 1920 in Brooklyn, CT, son of the late Edeace and Delvina (Bouley) Trahan. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Air Force, 535th Bomb Squadron as a Staff Sergeant. He was a tradesman in carpentry working 42 years as a maintenance supervisor at Arrow-Hart & Hegeman in Danielson. Richard had made his home in Woodstock for over fifty years. He was a member of the VFW #1523 in Putnam, the Woodstock Theft Detection Society, and the Woodstock Historical Society. He served ten years with the East Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department. Richard enjoyed carpentry and woodworking; he made clocks, furniture and built his home in Woodstock, in his youth he built many boats. He was in business with his wife Charlotte, making he buildings for her "Mini Village". He was an avid Motorcyclist for over 70 years and enjoyed playing golf, and a Red Sox fan. He leaves his wife of thirty years, Charlotte, two daughters, Cheryl Normandie Rukstela and her husband Pete of Brooklyn , Christine Campbell and her husband Robert of Putnam; a son,Charles Dixon, III; brothers Robert Trahan and his wife Lucille of Dayville: Paul Trahan and his wife Cecile of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren: Peter, Heidi, Dane, Angela; Lena; Mathew; Meagan: Scott, two great grandchild Dana and Ty. He was predeceased by a son Scott Dixon, Sr.; brothers Roody Trahan and Edeas Donat Trahan. The funeral will be Monday at 10:30 AM from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling Hours Sunday 4:00 to 6:00 PM and Monday 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home. Burial with military honors in ST Mary Cemetery.
