Obituary of Edith W. Fisher

Edith Evelyn Woodis Fisher passed away at her home of colon cancer with her family at her bedside June 8, 2008. She was born in Putnam on October 15, 1922. The ninth child of Elbert E. and Mabelle Williams Woodis of Putnam, she was predeceased by three brothers and five sisters and her husband, Donald Fisher Sr., who passed away on September 2, 2006. Survivors include her son Donald Jr. and Flo of Thompson; daughters Bette and husband Jim Magnan of Manchester, ME; Barbara and husband Thomas of Knoxville, TN; brother Leslie Woodis and wife Helen of Putnam; sister-in-law Pauline Woodis of East Hampton and Quaddick and Iva Woodis of Ballouville, CT; three grandchildren; five great grand children; and several nieces and nephews. On August 21, 1943, Edith was married to the love of her life, Donald Fisher Sr. of Putnam CT. for 63 years. They resided in Putnam raising their three children and running the family business, Fisher Brothers Dairy. Edith loved being a mother and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and baking. There were often warm cookies to greet the children as they got off the school bus. Woodis family gatherings were special events. Edie was often seen taking the family photos that she shared with her family. She was a long-term volunteer for the tumor clinic at Day Kimball Hospital and volunteered for the Boy Scout and Girl Scout organizations. After her home was almost destroyed by fire on August 1, 2007, she recently returned to her newly restored dwelling where she spent her remaining days. The family expresses appreciation to Day Kimball Hospice nurses and Sharon Lapiere for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Daily Bread, 53 Grove Street, Putnam, CT 06260. Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 1:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling Hours Monday 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
