Obituary of Beatrice E. Arvidson

Beatrice E. Arvidson, 86, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Village at Waterman Lake. Born July 29, 1921 in Putnam, daughter of the late Axel and Agnes (Swanson) Arvidson. She attended Woodstock Public Schools and Woodstock Academy and graduated from Bryant College in RI. She later received a business degree American International College in Springfield. She was employed by Monarch Life Insurance Company in Springfield for 39 years as Dept. Head. After retirement she returned to Woodstock to live on the family farm. She was a devoted member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock which she attended faithfully. She served on the Deacon Board and was a member of the Ladies Group. Bea was a fine seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes for her nieces when they were young. She enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers, vegetable garden and especially her blueberry bushes which were her pride and joy. She is survived by her brother Paul Arvidson and his wife Joan, four nieces, Carol (Lauren) Merlo, Martha (Robert) Beckwith, Beth (Frank) Thayer, Linda (Greg) Scarpa, six great nieces and two great nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Sven Arvidson. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Burial at Elmvale Cemetery in Woodstock.
