Obituary of John A.C. Morley
Eastford - John A.C. Morley a long-time resident of Eastford died Wednesday April 30, 2008. Born in England, May 24, 1925, he moved to the United States in 1960. John spent his entire career in the steel cable business, for several years an owner of GBG Industries, Inc. in Willimantic.
John was active in civic affairs in Eastford. He was instrumental in organizing the Eastford Soccer League and acted as a coach for many years. He served on the Planning Commission, Transfer Station Advisory Committee, Nahaco Park Commission and the Union Society of Phoenixville Building Committee. He was also a member of the Eastford Independent Fire Company and the Republican Town Committee. He took great pleasure in his home and his gardens.
He leaves his wife Maureen and daughters Jennifer of Washington, DC and Elizabeth of Roanoke, VA. He also leaves his daughter Lynne Close and her husband Chris, grandchildren Jonathan and Rachael, all of Harrogate, England and his sister Jean, of Banstead, England.
A Memorial Service will be Sunday at 2:30 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.
