Obituary of Arthur E. Burton, Sr.
Arthur E. Burton, Sr., 79 of N. Smithfield, RI, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at his home. He was born January 19, 1929 in Fall River, MA, son of the late Alfred and Stella (Smith) Burton.
He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army. He has made his home in N. Smithfield for the past eight years, formerly of East Providence for 26 years. He was a toolmaker-engineer. He retired from Ballou Manufacturing Company in Providence in 1996. He also worked for Kilmartin Tool Company, Providence and Kaman Aerospace in Moosup.
His hobbies included archaeology, the Blackstone Valley Ham Radio Operator, an avid fly fisherman for over 65 years, making his own rods and tying his own flies, deer hunter, making and flying Radio Controlled Airplanes. He was a Boy Scout Leader, and coached Little League and Senior League Baseball. He was a member of the Massachusetts Archaeology Society, Academy of Model Aeronautics, Rhody Flyers, RIMS, a life member of Walum Lake Rod & Gun Club.
He leaves his companion of 34 years, Helen Davis, his sons: Arthur E. (Frances) Burton, Jr. of Westerly, RI, Garry L. Burton of Chepachet, RI, his daughter Gail Finch of Seekonk, MA, grandchildren Arthur III, Michael, Christopher, William, great grandchildren Caroline and Dakota. Funeral Services will be private.
