Obituary of Francis R. St. Jean

Francis R. "Pug" St. Jean, 83, of Sabin Street, Putnam, died Monday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances "Pete" (Lannon) St. Jean. They were married July 4, 1946, she died April 8, 2001. Born December 14, 1924 in Norwich, son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (St. Godard) St. Jean. He lived in Putnam most of his life, a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. He was a Plumber and operated a Plumbing Business for several years. He was the Superintendent for the Town of Putnam Water Department for several years and retired in 2001 from Control Concepts formerly Dazic. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army in the 101st Airborne Division, serving as a combat infantryman in Normandy and Rhineland. He was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, but home and family always came first in his life. He leaves his son Gary St. Jean and his wife Heather, his brothers: Russell St. Jean, Gerald St. Jean, his sister: Anne Marie St. Jean, all of Putnam, his granddaughters: Melissa St. Jean of Pomfret and Ashley St. Jean of Worcester, MA, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother Edmond St. Jean in 2004. Calling hours will be Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home.
