Obituary of James H. Gagnon

Dayville - James H. Gagnon, 94, of Dayville died Friday, January 17, 2025 at Westview Health Care Center Dayville. He was the beloved husband of the late Doris A. (Beaudet), she died April 4, 2010. James was born on January 23, 1931, son of the late Henry and Winifred Gagnon of East Millinocket Maine.

A graduate of Gorham State Teachers College Maine, with a degree in Education. Jim began his teaching career in Dudley Massachusetts for one year and moved on to Putnam High School as the department head/teacher of the Industrial Arts program for the next 33 years. Many former students continue to express fond memories of the education that Jim provided. Retiring in 1988 Jim and his sons became involved with the construction of projects at the Woodstock Fair for many years.

Jim at the time of his passing was the oldest and longest serving member (68 Years) of the Putnam Lodge of Elks. Was a Member of the American Legion with 5 years active service with the National Guard achieving the rank of Sargent.

Jim was a fixture of the Putnam YMCA.  Always willing to share Atomic Fire Ball and share extended stories, some with questionable humor.

He leaves his children Steven J. Gagnon (Rose) of Putnam, CT, David A. Gagnon (Debra) of Putnam, CT. Grand Children Stacy, Derik, Nathan, Kimberly, Danielle, Casey, Great Grand Children Brittany, Andrew, Amelia, Carter, Vayda, Emily, Aubrey and a Great Great Grandchild Lorenzo. He was predeceased by his son Michael T. Gagnon.

All Family, Friends and former students are welcome to gather at the Putnam Lodge of Elks (64 Edmond Street) on Friday, February 7th for a gathering to share stories beginning a 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to be made to the Putnam Lodge of Elks in memory of James Gagnon to be distributed to Graduates pursuing the Carpentry trade. Share a memory with his family at Smithandwalkerfh.com
