Obituary of Kevin J. Shead

Kevin J. Shead, 73 of Eastford passed away after a brief illness at Hartford Hospital Saturday, June 1, 2024. He was the beloved husband of 46 years to Susan (LaRose) Shead. They were married May 6, 1978. He was born February 26, 1951 in Putnam, son of the late Clayton, Jr. and Doris (Bosworth) Shead.

He graduated from Windham Technical High School in Willimantic in 1969 and received his Associates Degree from Thames Valley Technical College in 1971. Kevin worked 44 years at International Paper in Putnam, retiring seven years ago as Safety Coordinator. Over the years, Kevin was involved with his community serving on the Eastford Independent Fire Company, Republican Town Committee and coaching his children in sports. He was the #1 New York Giants Fan!  He loved traveling with his family and friends to Alaska, Yellowstone, Niagara Falls, Florida and Aruba. Kevin also enjoyed his time in Vermont at their Camp, where he loved spending time outdoors. His biggest passion in life was his family. 

He is survived by the love of his life Susan Shead of Eastford, CT; son, Jason Shead and his wife Elizabeth of Thompson, CT; daughter, Heather Minka and her husband Nicholas of Holden, MA; four beloved grandchildren Tyler, Lucas, Connor and Nora; brother Barry Shead and his wife Brenda of Woodstock, CT; sister, Audrey Carabeau and her husband Garry of Eastford, CT and several nieces and nephews. 

His family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Hartford Hospital for the care he received. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Eastford Independent Fire Company. 

Calling Hours will be Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Funeral Service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private at Grove Cemetery in Eastford. Share a memory at Smithandwalkerfh.com
