Obituary of Stella Mary Desautels

Stella Mary Desautels of Grove Street, Putnam, Ct., passed away on February 8, 2008 at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, Ct. Stella was born on December 4, 1917 in Putnam, daughter of Ovila Omer and Anna Marie (Bissonnette) Bourque. She was the beloved wife of Lionel Joseph Desautels who predeceased her on August 15, 2003. They were married on June 28, 1941 at St. Mary's Church of the Visitation in Putnam. Stella was born and raised in Putnam. She worked at The Woolen Mill on Church Street for seven years and retired from Jacobs Rubber Company in Killingly in 1984 after working there for 29 1/2 years. She was proud of her membership in the Girl's Marching Guard Drill Team which she joined as a young adult. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam. She is survived by her daughter, Carlene and husband Thomas Landry of Old Lyme, Ct., her daughter Janet and husband Thomas Auclair of Putnam, and daughter Alma and husband James Morey of Putnam. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren and husband Timothy Wojcik of Salem, Ct., Gregg Landry and wife Lori of Old Lyme, Ct., Heidi Auclair and fiance, Denis Golden of Woodstock, Ct., Adam Auclair of Dayville, Ct. and Aaron Auclair and wife Bethany of Denville, New Jersey, and Shannon, Kayla, and Jill Morey of Putnam. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Alexander and Charlotte Wojcik, Ava Golden, and Brianna and Brenden Landry and her sister, Bertha Provencher of St. Petersburg, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. Stella was also predeceased by her son, Lionel J. Desautels, Jr. and her grandson Brian J. Landry and her sisters, Antoinette, Theresa, and Beatrice Bourque, Dorilla Rachel Couture, Celia Caron, Agnes Dubois, and Yvonne Bouthellier, Alma Mazzarella, and by her brothers, Alfred, Archilles, and William John Bourque. Stella was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, aunt and great aunt. She will be missed by many who knew her and loved her sharp wit, and zest for life, and of her flower and vegetable gardens. The Funeral will be Monday at 10:30AM from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam followed by an 11:00 AM, Mass of Christian Burial at ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling Hours will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial in Grove Street Cemetery.
