Obituary of John Robert Mayo, Sr.

John Robert Mayo, Sr., 79, formerly of N. Grosvenordale and Pomfret, died Thursday at Lanessa Health Care in Webster. He was born in Putnam, son of the late Louis and Louise (Austin) Mayo. John worked for the Town of Pomfret for over twenty years. He worked as a Diesel Mechanic for International Harvester. For over 40 years he was the Cemetery Sexton at Pomfret South, North, Abington and Christ Church Cemeteries in Pomfret. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting and John Wayne movies. He leaves his children: Rosemary Mineau (Russell) of Putnam, John, Jr. (Valerie) of Sterling, Randy of NC; Donald of Danielson, Mark of N. Grosvenordale, brothers: George of Putnam; Peter of AL; David of Pomfret; Charles Mayo of Putnam; sisters: Ida Materas of Webster; Marie Ramsdell of Putnam; Shirley Miracle, Ethel Warren, both of FL, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Irene (Walker) Mayo, she died in 1998, son: Timothy, siblings: Jesse, Louis, Leonard, Paul, Jean, Barbara, Eva, Dora. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday at 5:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam.
