Obituary of John L. Wiik
John L. Wiik, Sr., 89, of Kingsbury Rd, Thompson, CT, formerly of Grafton, MA, died Sunday. He was the husband of 65 years of Martha L. (Pendleton) Wiik, father of Jane H. Hjertberg of Grafton, MA, John L. Wiik, Jr. of N. Grosvenordale; Steven P. Wiik of Pascoag, RI; Robert G. Wiik of Thompson; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was born February 22, 1918 in Worcester, MA, son of the late John L. and Sophie (Pentilla) Wiik. He attended Worcester Boys Trade School, was a swimmer in the Boys Club and a member of the football team. He was the Chief Engineer at Rockwood Sprinkler in Worcester working for 27 years and had previously worked for the Pullman Car Co. in Worcester. He moved to Florida in 1986 and returned to Thompson in 1999. He was an active Jehovah Witness for 40 years, an Army Veteran of WWII serving as a medic in the Philippines.
He was predeceased by a brother and a sister. A Memorial Service will be Sunday, January 20th at 2:00 PM in The Kingdom Hall, 11 Hill Road, Thompson. Burial in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville, MA. Arrangements by Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam, CT.
