Obituary of Maria C. Leandro

Maria do Carmo Leandro, 88, of Brooklyn, CT, previously of Wauregan, CT passed away peacefully on October 16, 2022 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Maria was the beloved wife of 52 years to the late John S. Leandro. She was born July 20, 1934 in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Agostinho and Elvira (Sousa) Ferreira da Silva.

Maria is survived by her daughters Filomena Figueras and her husband Danny of Margate, FL; Maria Rosaria Stewart of Vernon, CT; Margarida Taylor and her husband Edward of Willington, CT; and her grandchildren: Juno, Jessica, Ashley, Kristal, Kyle, Nicholas, Curtis and great grandchildren: Faith, Lana, Robert, Christopher, Karl and Benjamin. She is also survived by her siblings Gabriel Ferreira, Maria da Luz Verissimo, and Julieta Aguiar and many nieces and nephews.

Maria will forever be remembered as a woman of strong faith who was dedicated to and loved spending time with her family. She truly enjoyed gardening and was an amazing cook. Maria also loved the numerous children she cared for and helped to raise over the years. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the care and love they extended to Maria during her last few years with us.

The Funeral will be Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 9:45 AM from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT, burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wauregan, CT.
