Obituary of Abbigail Jonah Canfield

Our sweet “Abby” aka Abbigail Jonah Canfield was born on a crisp fall evening in 1988. Teeny and loud, our baby with the sky-blue eyes was an immediate ray of sunshine to her momma Johanna, father Jonathan Canfield, big sis Ashleigh and later to her little brother Ian.

Abby grew up and lived in Worcester most of her young life, graduating from Flagg Street School, Venerini Academy, Notre Dame Academy and then attended UMass Dartmouth with a focus on early childhood education. Abby had an army of really great friends growing up, most of whom remained very close.

A classic beauty with those dazzling eyes and a light-up-the-room smile, Abby was intuitively kind and comforting, especially around kids. We loved hearing her heartwarming and hilarious kid-stories – "Miss Abby, Miss Abby" – still echoes joyously in our minds.

Abby loved the cooking channel and was a great self-taught chef. Man oh man could she lay down a meal. Everyone was happy when Abby was in the kitchen, especially her momma and dad Paul. It was such a treat cooking with her on Sundays, time spent laughing and telling silly stories. Doing nothing or everything with Abby was a treat, just time spent basking in her offbeat sense of humor, her kindness, and her thoughtfulness.

Abby moved to Connecticut a few years ago to live with her love Brandon and their pup Gunther (who became her fierce and handsome bodyguard). Though we would laugh pretty hard thinking about Ab collecting eggs and cleaning pens, our city girl loved farm life. Their simple but impactful life was well lived, and their beautiful little farmhouse was a representation of their love, spirit and mutual joy.

Our world came to an abrupt & screeching halt this past spring with the sudden death and suicide of our sweet girl. We will be asking unanswerable questions for the remainder of our time on earth. What prompted this? How does this happen?

Abby, we will love you forever, our beautiful blue-eyed girl. You have left behind so many of us that loved and cared for you. Our amazing memories of you will just have to suffice, along with always remembering your kindness, thoughtfulness and capacity for love.

Abby leaves behind her momma Johanna, father Jonathan, dad Paul, sister (Ash) Ashleigh Carrasquillo, brother (E) Ian Canfield, brother in law (Josy) Jose Carrasquillo, her niece (Ali) Alissaundra and nephew (LJ) Jose, uncles David (uncle DeeDee) Ashley of Florida and Jeffrey Canfield of New Hampshire, her boyfriend (Brandy) Brandon Thomas of Connecticut, and pup/ body guard (Gunny) Gunther, and a plethora of amazing longtime friends.

Abby meant so much to so many. We will be honoring her with a Celebration of Life Gathering of family and close friends (invite only).
