Obituary of Mildred Helen Hibbard
Mildred Helen (Mason) Hibbard, 87, of Hibbard Hill Farm, Woodstock, joined her husband of 60 years, Asa Chandler Hibbard, in eternal peace and joy on December 14, 2007. Mildred was born in Ballouville, the daughter of Bertha (Czub) and Fred J. Mason.
She married Chan on October 14, 1943 and they made their home in East Woodstock Village and later on the family farm in East Woodstock. Millie was a devoted mother and farm wife. She taxied her children and grandchildren, loved to go on trips and watch the birds, and was a master at canning and freezing vegetables from the garden and stretching meals for unexpected guests. She was a member of the Ladies' Benevolent Society of the East Woodstock Congregational Church. She was a reader, sewer and crafter with a gift for creativity and a life-long "Days of Our Lives" fan. She loved her family and was pleased with their success. She was especially fond of her little "angel" next door, youngest grandchild, Catherine, who humbly delivered homemade goodies and took time from her busy college schedule to call her daily.
She leaves a sister, Irene Williams, in Apopka, FL, and her sisters-in-law, Edna Hibbard of Putnam, and Louise Hibbard of Danielson. She leaves her sons and their spouses, David and Joanne Hibbard of Rhinelander, WI, and Donald and Susan Hibbard of Woodstock. She leaves her daughters, Rev. Barbara Schreier of Putnam, and Linda Worchel and husband, Mark, of Woodstock. She leaves her grandsons, Scott Schreier and wife Rachel, Nashville; Derek Hibbard, Boston; Todd Schreier and wife Jennifer, Jewett City; Kevin Schreier and wife Gretchen, Denver; Chris and Ginny Worchel, Ashford. She leaves her granddaughters, Daylyn and Kevin Hopp, Stevens Point, WI; Erin and Michael DeCarli, Roanoke, VA; Catherine Hibbard, Woodstock; and she leaves her great grandchildren, Jakob and Kaleb Schreier, and Sarah and Ben Hopp, as well as several nieces and nephews. Millie was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Donna, and by her siblings, Fred and Bernice.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, 6:30 p.m. at the East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, East Woodstock, CT. Burial in the spring at Center Cemetery, Woodstock. Memorials may be made to the Woodstock Little League, P.O. Box 94, Woodstock, CT 06281. Arrangements by Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam.
