Obituary of Sigfred T. Collins

Sigfred T. Collins 96 of Woodstock and Cromwell, CT went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Evelyn (Child) Collins of Covenant Village of Cromwell, his son: Rev. Norman Collins and his wife Charlotte of Rockford, IL, his daughter: Priscilla(Collins) Himmelwright and her husband Jim of East Hampton, CT. He leaves three grandchildren: Carol-Jean Burchardt of Rockford, IL; Sheri Lee Wilkins of Omaha, NE; Kristin Forbush of Hampden, ME. He also leaves 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Also surviving him are two sisters: Esther Wyeth of Woodstock and Juliette Christensen of Asheville, NC. He was born on June 2, 1911 in the farmhouse of Moheda Farm on New Sweden Rd. Woodstock. He was the 3rd of the 7 children of John A. and Emma (Ask) Collins and was predeceased by brothers Spencer, John, Conrad and a sister Sylvia Marcy. He attended the one room Quasset School in Woodstock and worked the majority of his working life on the family farm. He married Evelyn Mabel Child on August 24, 1935, they lived in the farmhouse of his birth until 1963 when they moved into their newly built home on New Sweden Rd on a corner lot of the Family farm. Just prior to that time Sig had left farming and joined the Housekeeping Dept. of Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam where he worked until his retirement in the mid 70's. Sig's strong faith in God was exemplified by his lifelong involvement in the Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock. Devout Christians, he and Evelyn were active members until they left to reside at Creamery Brook Retirement Village of Brooklyn, CT in 2001, followed by a brief stay at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home of Brooklyn and subsequently to the skilled nursing unit, Pilgrim Manor, of Covenant Village of Cromwell, CT in 2005. A Graveside Service will be Thursday November 15th at 10:30 AM in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock with the Rev. Mike Gillette and Rev. Glen Halvorsen officiating, following the Service there will be a time of fellowship at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Woodstock. A memorial service for Sigfred will be held on Friday November 16th at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Covenant Village of Cromwell with Rev. Glen Halvorsen, Chaplain officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Sigfred's memory to the church he loved, The Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock, CT 06281 or to the Benevolent Care Fund, Covenant Village of Cromwell, 52 Missionary Road, Cromwell, CT 06416.
