Obituary of Louis K. Birinyi

Louis K. Birinyi, 89, formerly of Columbus, OH, died Friday at the Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam where he made his home. He was the husband of Reba (Mumma) Birinyi. They were married on June 20, 1947, she died in 2003. Born in Cleveland, Ohio April 13, 1918, son of the late Louis K. and Anna Birinyi. He attended Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Served in the US Navy during World War II as a radioman in the Pacific. He attended Purdue University and received his Masters in Welding Engineering. He moved east to work at General Dynamics Electric Boat, Groton, CT After retiring he returned to Ohio. His lifelong interest was in gardening, receiving the Golden Shovel Award from City of Columbus in honor of food donations from his gardening during his retirement years. He moved to Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam in 2003 to be near his family. He is survived by his three children-Louis Birinyi, Jr., Richard Birinyi, Christina Bourquin, two grandchildren David Birinyi and Anna Birinyi.A calling hour will be Monday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at the Putnam Baptist Church, 170 Church Street, Putnam, CT followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM, with Rev. Gil Bourquin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his momory to Putnam Baptist Church, P. O.
