Alma (Landry) Proulx, 98, of Eastford, died Thursday July 19, 2007, at Douglas Manor, Windham Center. Alma was admitted to Day Kimball Hospital due to a heart attack, she had never been admitted to a hospital in her 98 years. She was the widow of Roland Proulx, he died in 1996. She was born June 24, 1909 on a farm in St. Maurice, near Trois Rivieres, Quebec, daughter of Hormidas and Sara (Doucet) Landry. Alma was the last of her Landry family, a generation of tough, pioneer stock. She was the second to the youngest in her family of seven sisters and one brother. She immigrated from Canada to Connecticut at age 17 and became a US citizen. First settling in Willimantic, where she worked in textile mills and married Roland Proulx in 1932, they raised four sons. In 1958 the family moved to Storrs, where Alma retired from maintenance at University of Connecticut. In 1968 Alma, husband Roland with Roger and Ray had their house built on the hill with a view on Route 44 in Eastford. She always enjoyed taking care of the landscape, even mowing the grass in her eighties. She leaves three sons: Leo Proulx and his wife Mary Lou of Rumford, RI; Roger Proulx of Ashford; Raymond Proulx, with whom Alma made her home in Eastford; her grandchildren; David Proulx and wife Lucy of San Jose, CA and Bellingham, MA; Michael Proulx and wife Cindy of Cathedral City, CA; Diane Belliveau and husband Dean of Pawtucket, RI; Terri Lowry and husband Michael of Pawtucket, RI; Ronald Thompson and wife Kristy of Naples, FL; Donald Thompson and wife Kim of Lake Stevens, WA; six great grandchildren: Frank, Matthew, Sean, Katianne, Jeremy, Jacob and her pretty tabby cat "Tuffy". She was predeceased by her youngest son Rene Proulx in 1995. Her family would like to thank the staff at Douglas Manor for the extraordinary level of care given to their mother in the last week of her life. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday July 28th at 10:00 AM in St. Philip-Apostle Church, 64 Pompey Hollow Rd., Ashford; burial will follow in St. Philip Cemetery. No Calling Hours.
