I was very sorry to hear that Don O’Leary had passed away. I knew Don growing up when we both attended St. Joesph’s Catholic Church in Dayville. Don was the lector almost every Sunday morning and my brother Craig and I were altar severs every week at the 8am mass for almost a decade, maybe more. Don would always help us out and especially when we were getting started, he would point out where we needed to be and what to do on more complex masses. Later, I became a lector and Don graciously shared the lector duties with me and showed me the ropes. He was an excellent lector (always thought he was the best I’ve seen in all the different places I’ve been to Mass). Much more than that though, Don was one of those genuine good people, who truly cared about others. He had a great low key sense of humor and I remember we would always be talking with him, the priest and others involved with the Mass before church started. He was one of those people I was lucky to know growing up who was a good role model. My grandmother had worked with him at Rogers for many years and also spoke of him as a kind person. I send my condolences as well as prayers to Nancy and all of Don’s family - may your memories bring you comfort during this sad time. Although I haven’t seen Don in a while, he was someone I liked a lot and will miss!

Mr. O was my softball coach from the time I was a young child though my early teens. He was a true gentleman and cared so much about the young people he taught/coached. He was passionate about the game, but more passionate about teaching is about life. He was always so generous! He will be greatly missed. I wish I could be at the service, however I was not able to find a flight to get me there on time for the services( I just found out about his passing this evening).
I am so sorry to the family, this is a hard loss for you all!

Don was a true friend, for over forty years, a gentleman and a scholar. So kind, sincere, thoughtful, smart, funny, honest. What a blessing it was to have him as a friend. Sincere condolences to the entire family, with love.
