Obituary of Virginia C. Reed

Virginia C. Reed, 92, of North Woodstock, died Tuesday, May 1st at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. She was the wife of the late Wesley Bradford Reed, they were married January 14, 1939 in Berlin, MA, he died in 1977. She was born November 5, 1914 in Providence, RI, daughter of the late George Harold and Alma Alita (Taber) Collins. She lived most of her life in North Woodstock. She was the Librarian for the Woodstock Elementary School System for many years. Virginia was a founding member of the Woodstock Historical Society, a founding member of the North Woodstock Library Association and a founding member of the Woodstock Players. She volunteered many hours for the Literacy Volunteers of America in the Woodstock area. She was active for many years as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and taught Sunday School at the North Woodstock Congregational Church for many years. She leaves her children: Caroline Alley of Woodstock Valley; Peter Reed of Texas City, TX; Anthony Reed of Woodstock; Katherine Jones of Norwich, NY, grandchildren Jason Reed, Brian Henrichon, Elizabeth Reed, Rebecca Henrichon, Mathew Wolcott and several great grandchildren, predeceased by a brother George "Budd" Harold Collins, Jr. Funeral Services are private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Connecticut, PO Box 58, Danielson, CT 06239. Arrangements by Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam, CT.
