Obituary of Edward Wallace Downs

Edward Wallace Downs, 88, of Kenyonville Rd, Woodstock Valley, formerly of Fairfield, died Friday at Haven Health Care in Danielson. He was the husband of the late Clara (Walker) Downs, they were married in 1941. Born April 30, 1918 in Bridgeport, CT son of the late Nelson H. And Beatrice (Tomlinson) Downs. He was an accountant working for Ballard Machine Tool Company in Bridgeport for over 35 years, he retired in 1975. He had made his home in Fairfield for many years, moving to Woodstock Valley in 1978. He was a member of ST Philips Church in Putnam and served as Treasurer and Vestryman for several years. He also was a member of the Bullard Company Quarter Century Club, The Senexet Bible Study Group, Woodstock American Legion Post 111, treasurer and volunteer at Roseland Cottage. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Navy. He leaves a daughter, Margaret D. Olson of Milford, a son, Bradford R. Downs of Woodstock Valley; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Russell Downs and Nelson Downs. A memorial service will be held January 13th, (Saturday) at 10:30 am at ST Philips Episcopal Church, 63 Grove Street, Putnam. Burial with Military Honors in MT Zion Cemetery, Webster, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to ST Philips Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 63 Grove Street, Putnam, CT 06260.
