Obituary of Sybil C. Gagnon

Sybil C. (Compa) Gagnon, 69, of East Dennis, MA, formerly of Putnam, CT, died Wednesday morning after a fifteen year battle with Huntington's chorea. She was the beloved wife of Earl W. Gagnon. Born July 22, 1937 in Portsmouth, NH, daughter of the late Christopher and Sybil (Keach) Compa, and had made her home in Putnam since the age of eleven. Sybil was a 1955 graduate of the Putnam High School and a graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. After her marriage to Earl, her boyfriend since the seventh grade, she and her husband owned and operated the Smith & Walker Paint and Wallpaper store in Putnam for over twenty years. They also owned and operated the Smith & Walker Funeral Home in Putnam for twenty years, retiring to Cape Cod fifteen years ago. Sybil was a member of the Putnam United Methodist Church, the Putnam Coin Club and the Putnam Republican Town Committee. Sybil was a student of English history and was considered an expert on the subject. She leaves in addition to her husband Earl, asister-in-law and brother-in-law: Lorna and Ross Shirer of South Hampton, MA; several nieces and a nephew and several cousins. A Graveside Service will be held June 2, 2007 at 11:00 am in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. Memorial Gifts may be made in Sybil's memory to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601.
