Obituary of Delphis N. Martel, Jr.

Delphis N. Martel, Jr., 55 of Chapman Street, Putnam, died unexpectedly Thursday at home in Putnam. Born in Putnam on May 26, 1950, son of Elizabeth (Aubin) Martel and the late Delphis Martel, Sr. He made his home in Putnam most of his life, moving from Woodstock. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the US Navy. He worked as a Maintenance Mechanic at the former Anchor Glass in Dayville for 30 years. After the plant closed he worked at several smaller businesses in the community. He enjoyed reading and raising his boys. In addition to his mother, he leaves his sons: David Martel and his wife Wendy, twins Shawn Martel and Steven Martel all of Putnam, daughter: Lisa Martel of Putnam, 2 grandchildren, siblings: Joseph, Norman, Roger, Gary, Robert, Joann, and Betty, and his companion: Linda Charette. He was pre-deceased by brother, Ronald. The Funeral will be Monday at 10:00 am from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors in ST Mary Cemetery.
