Obituary of Phillip A. Brown

Phillip A. Brown, 81, of Putnam, CT formerly of Westboro, MA, died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family. Husband of Geraldine (Yeates) Brown, they were married in Jasper, TX in 1947. Born in Caribou, ME, February 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Gideon and Ethel (Hamilton) Brown. He had made his home in Putnam for the last 26 years, moving from Westboro, MA. He was a machinist, he worked as a foreman at Olson Manufacturing in Worcester, MA and Inner-Tite Corp. in Holden for 52 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Westboro Baptist Church and served as Deacon for many years. He was the patriarch of the family that founded the Koinonia School of Sports in 1973. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army with the 248th Engineers and received a Purple Heart. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, fixing things, and driving his tractor. He was the manager of Browns Shooting Sports in Thompson since 1990. He enjoyed spending time talking with customers at the gun shop, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Geraldine, he leaves his sons; Donald Brown and his wife Dianne of Thompson, Ronald Brown and his wife Betty of Mt. Airy, MD, Jack Brown and his wife Sandra of Dayville, Gary Brown of Putnam, 6 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including Joanne Kippax of Greene, ME. A Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church Of Pomfret, Route 169, Pomfret, followed by burial with military honors in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam.
