Obituary of Dorothy P. Place

Dorothy P. Place, age 67 of Woodstock, passed away March 11, 2006 at home after a battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Harry J. Place for 30 years. She was born June 12, 1938 in Putnam, daughter of the late Sidney and Loretta (Derosier) Nichols.

She was employed for over 25 years at the American Optical, working in Southbridge and Putnam. After retiring she cared for many sick and elderly in the area. She was an active and devoted member of the Congregational Church of Eastford where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Nursery care and a member of the Board of Christian Education.She had made her home in Woodstock most of her life, enjoyed traveling and camping. Her greatest love was spending time and being with her grandchildren.

She leaves in addition to her husband, two daughters: Doreen M. Roy of N. Grosvenordale; Cindy Hamilton of Putnam; three step-children: Kerri Buell of Woodstock; Norma Withers of Pomfret; Walter Place of Milbury, MA; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren, five sisters: Lorella Holt of Putnam; Carol Bazinet of Putnam; Rose Moore of Maryland; Theresa Duqutte of Thompson; Mary Duhaime of Thompson, two brothers: Sidney Nichols, Jr. of S. Carolina; John Nichols of Providence, RI.

Calling Hours will be held Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 18th at 1:00 PM in the Congregational Church of Eastford, 8 Church Road, Eastford, Burial in Center Cemetery, Woodstock.
