Obituary of Pierre “Pete” Godin

Pierre “Pete” Godin, 83, formerly of Sabin Street, Putnam, died Saturday morning, August 6 2005, at the Haven Health Center in Danielson. He was the beloved husband of Hazel (Cote) Godin whom he married June 25, 1945 at St. Mary Church in Putnam. Born October 31, 1921 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, son of the late Simeon and Yvonne (Godfrey) Godin.He was employed as a machine operator at the US Button Shop in Putnam (Parizek and Koppers Corp) from 1955 until his retirement in 1984. He cooked at the Pomfret School in 1944, worked for the C.C.C. Camp during World War II, and for Cluet and Peabody from 1945 to 1955.He loved his children and grandchildren, was an avid Yankees fan, and enjoyed classic movies, vegetable gardening and photography, having his own dark room. He leaves a son, Philip Godin of Putnam, a daughter, Patricia Drouin, and her husband, Denis, of Thompson, a sister, Theresa Burke of Greenville, RI, grandchildren Bonnie Lindell of Pomfret Center; Heidi Davis and her husband Christopher of Brooklyn, four great grandchildren Matthew, Madison, Claudia, and Allysa He was predeceased by a brother, Simeon Godin, Jr., in 1984. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, with a Prayer Service at 6:00 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
