Lois (Bosworth) Newth, 89 of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Paul Edward Newth, died Friday, June 10, 2005 at the Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 29, 1916 in Eastford, CT, daughter of Benjamin and Adeline (Sumner) Bosworth. Lois graduated from Putnam High School in 1934 with honors, along with classmate former Governor John Dempsey. Upon the death of her father, Lois took over management of the familys dairy farm and helped to raise her younger sisters. She married Paul Newth in 1940 and moved to Manchester where she has resided for the past 60 years. She was an avid flower gardener and enjoyed country music, but her pride and passion was in nurturing her large and loving family. Lois lived her life with grace, modesty and compassion. Lois leaves her children: Richard Newth; Robert Newth and his wife Caroline; Joyce Hood and her husband Kevin; Jean Strimike-Martin and her husband Lowell; all of Manchester, three sisters: Virginia Halchek of Willington; Marjorie June Staveski of Eastford; Priscilla Hicks of Eastford; nine grandchildren: Richard Newth, Jr.; Michael Newth; Debra Hamilton; Christopher Martin; Laura and Katherine Martin; Patrick, Justin and Brittany Hood, a great-grandson: Dylan Newth, a daughter-in-law: Diane Leger and her caregiver Monica Matheson. She was predeceased by her son: Paul E. Newth, Jr., a grandson: Robert Strimike, Jr., three sisters: Doris Shead; Mildred Kuper; Helen Hess. Lois will always be remembered for her kindness and her love. A special thank you to the staff of the Jefferson House of East Hartford. The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling Hour will be Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Eastford. In lieu of flowers donations will be made in Lois memory to the Village for Family and Children, 1680 Albany Highway, Hartford, CT 06105 or the John A.
