Obituary of Robert H. Jackson, Sr.

Robert H. Jackson, Sr.,84 of Sabin Street, Putnam, died Monday at the V A Medical Center in Providence, RI after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Beatrice (Hazzard) Jackson; they were married February 10, 1940 in Dudley, MA. He was born February 22, 1921 in Putnam, son of the late Berry and Maude (Congdon) Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a construction worker for 33 years, working for Peaslee Construction of Hartford; he also had worked for the Railroad. He had made his home in Putnam all his life, a member of the VFW Post 1523 and the former Irish American Club. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II serving in the South Pacific. He was an avid Horseshoe player and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and working with stone.Robert was a Native American of Mohegan and Narragansett descent. He was a man of few words, but what he said was the truth. He leaves in addition to his wife, six children: Anna Jackson of Bloomfield; Catherine Foster of Southborough, MA; Robert Jackson, Jr. of Dayville; Francis Jackson of Putnam; Deborah Mounds of Hartford; Cheryl Jackson-Morris of Windsor; His four siblings: William Jackson of Groton; Lewis Jackson of Norwich; Louis Whitford of Quaker Hill; Dicey Hillard of New London; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 AM in the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
