Obituary of Elsie O. Stark

Elsie O. Stark, 96, of Putnam, died Wednesday at the Westview Nursing Home in Dayville, where she had made her home for the last 3 years, she had also made her home with her daughter Marge on Fox Road for ten years. She was the wife of the late Charles N. Stark, she was predeceased by her 1st husband Fredrick Shippee and her 2nd husband Richard Burlingame. Elsie was born March 6, 1913 in Putnam, daughter of the late Ernest and Attie (Chase) Burton. She was an active member of the Putnam Baptist Church, a fifty plus year member of the Chepachet Grange in Chepachet, RI, where she had served as past Master and had held many offices and positions in the grange. She had worked for many years at Belding Hemingway and later at Wellington Curtain as a supervisor. After she retired she baked and cooked at Margeo's restaurant in Putnam and also baked and decorated many Wedding Cakes. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, sewing, knitting and crossword puzzles. Elsie was an accomplished seamstress. She was loved by all that knew her. She leaves her son Frederick Shippee of NY; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and her dear friend Cynthia. She was predeceased by her daughters: Marjorie Long, Florence Bourbeau; Elsie Bushey, her siblings Doris Johnson, Attie Chase, Walter Burton, Ernest Burton. The Funeral Service will be Saturday at 10:00 AM in the Putnam Baptist Church, 170 Church Street, Putnam, CT. Calling Hours Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Burial in Munyan Cemetery, Putnam.
