Harwich, MA - Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Korswig, 66, of Harwich, MA and East Woodstock, CT passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, October 20, 2009 at her home in Harwich, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was the wife of Karl Korswig, they married on September 1, 1962 and celebrated 47 years of marriage. Betty was born in Southbridge, MA on January 5, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary Gagnon. She was the youngest of 10 children. Betty is survived by her husband Karl, her children and their families: Karen and Bill Doyle of Woodstock, Terri Ducharme and Doug Huot of Woodstock, Joann and Rick Ainslie of Harwich and Jamie and Matt Thompson of Orleans, grandchildren: Hannah, Dylan, Luke, Raymond, Elizabeth, Tracey and Ben, great-grandchildren: Evan, Carter, Alison and Axil, her sisters: Virginia McEwen of TX, Marilyn Freyman of CO, Shirley Johnson of FL, Pat Aldridge of FL, Lois Swenson of CT, and Gloria Bates of CT, her sister-in-law, Sally May of CT. She was predeceased by brothers: Wilfred Gagnon, Norman Gagnon, and Dick Gagnon. Betty was a graduate of Woodstock Academy. She stayed at home to raise her children and when the youngest were off to school she went to work for Linemaster Switch in Woodstock, CT. She and Karl moved to Cape Cod in 1988. Betty worked as a CNA at Rosewood Manor as well as provided private care to the elderly which she thoroughly enjoyed. She worked at Thompson's Printing and retired in 2007 to care for her grandchildren. Betty was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and true friend. She enjoyed camping, reading, chatting on the phone, visiting with friends and family, cooking for and feeding anyone who came by-especially her friends and their children in the neighborhood. Betty loved sports and was a dedicated supporter of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots as well as Tiger Woods. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00am at the East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, East Woodstock, CT.
