Obituary of Douglas A. Langer

Douglas Arthur Langer, 57, of Thompson Road, Thompson went to his heavenly reward on July 5, 2009 after a six and a half year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Susan (Rogalski) Langer, his wife of 26 years, she died in 2002. He was born December 1, 1951 in Putnam, son of late Bertha (Joslin) Langer and Carl Langer of Sebring, FL. Doug was a graduate of Tourtellotte Memorial High School and Ellis Technical School. He was employed as a machinist at Cranston Print Works for 30 years. He will be remembered for his devoted service to his community throughout his 39 years in the Thompson Hill Fire Department, 8 years as their chief. He also operated a Maple Syrup Business "Sweet Susie's Sugar Shack" and had a snow Plowing Business for many years. In addition to his father, he leaves his children, Joseph Langer and Kelli Langer both of Thompson; his siblings, Richard and his wife Beverly of Woodlands, TX, Sharon Rowe and her husband George of Windsor Locks; his special friend, Cindy Hunt of Dudley; several nieces and nephews. Calling Hours will be Thursday, July 9, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street Putnam, CT. A Memorial Service will be Friday, July 10, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Thompson Congregational Church followed by burial in East Thompson Cemetery.
