Obituary of Paul F. Guertin

Paul F. Guertin, 60, of Chassey Street, Putnam, died at home Thursday, May 7, 2009 surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Cindy (Nieviedgal) Guertin. They were married September 6, 1975 in Sacred Heart Church in Thompson. He was born April 12, 1949 in Putnam, son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Lamontagne) Guertin. He had made his home in Putnam all his life. He worked as a Lead Custodian at the University of Connecticut for 25 years, retiring July 2008. He was a Veteran of Vietnam War serving with the US Army. He was an avid fan of all UCONN Sports. He was well known in his neighborhood for his well cared for vegetable garden in which he took great pride. He would share his vegetables with his family, friends and neighbors. He also took great care of his yard and enjoyed working outside and a well known Mr. Fix-it. He always had time for his family and will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and brother. He leaves his wife Cindy, his daughter Stacey Guertin of Ledyard, his brothers Robert Guertin of Putnam, Michael Guertin and his wife Susan of Clinton, Gary Guertin and his wife Elaine of Thompson, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including a special aunt, Theresa Alexander of Putnam. Funeral will be Monday at 10:30 AM from the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling Hours are Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors in St Mary Cemetery, Putnam.
