Obituary of Sherrill C. Dehner, Jr.

Sherrill C. "Duke" Dehner, Jr. 81, of Bunny Lane, Brooklyn, CT, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Regency Health Care in Danielson, CT. He was the beloved husband of Janet R. (Stump) Dehner. He was born November 26, 1928 in Oil City, PA, son of the late Sherrill C. and Mary Louise (Downing) Dehner. He was a Veteran of WWII serving with the US Navy; he served four years in the Navy as a metal smith. He was a natural athlete and excelled in sports, including bowling and baseball, he was a star baseball pitcher during his youth. He had a great love for the game of baseball. He also enjoyed league bowling, hunting, fishing and pitching softball games. In 1958 he relocated to the Killingly area, as a transfer to work at Knox Glass., working as a Foreman in the glass production " Hot End. He retired in 1985, after retirement he worked for NAPA delivering parts for six years. He was a former member of the Danielson Elks and the Moose Club in Oil City. He leaves his wife: Janet, a son: Dale E. Eiler and his wife Kimberly of Brooklyn; daughters: Joanne R. Eiler of Freehold, NJ; Gale J. Williams of Danielson; Cynthia L Dehner of Brooklyn, CT; Cheryl J. Dehner of Seneca, PA; sisters: Doris Richey of Rouseville, PA; Janice Deibold of Riverside, CA, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Sherrill C. Dehner, III, and a daughter Linda Kuchy. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home , 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT. There will be a calling hour Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial with Military Honors in South Cemetery, Brooklyn.
