Obituary of Doris Anita Gagnon

Pomfret - Doris A. Gagnon, 79, of Hickey Road, Pomfret, died Sunday morning, April 4, 2010 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the beloved wife of James H. Gagnon, they were married April 2, 1951 in Westbrook, ME. She was born March 5, 1931 in Westbrook, ME, daughter of the late Armand and Martha (Arseneault) Beaudette. Doris was a graduate of Westbrook High School, "Class of 1949" and attended Gorham State Teachers College. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1970 from Eastern CT State College in Willimantic and later her Master's Degree in Education. She was a dedicated Second and Third Grade Teacher from 1970 to 1995 at the Killingly Memorial School in Danielson. Doris was a member of the Killingly Education Association, Connecticut Education Association, National Education Association, Woodstock Agricultural Society, and Day Kimball Hospital Women's Board and served as membership chairman. After retiring she volunteered at the Northeast Learning Center in Danielson and at Roseland Cottage in Woodstock. In her youth she played the violin and recently pursued fiddling on her violin. She enjoyed scrapbooking for her family. She leaves her husband James, her sons Steven J. Gagnon and his wife Rose Palazzo-Gagnon of Woodstock, Michael T. Gagnon and his wife Robbi Correa, of Palatka, FL, David A. Gagnon and his wife Lydia of Putnam, six grandchildren, Casey, Stacy, Kim, Danielle, Derik, Nathan, and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Armand J. Beaudette, Jr. Calling hours will be at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, April 7, 2010 and 10:00 to 11:00 AM Thursday, April 8, 2010 with a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM at funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Day Kimball Hospital, Pastoral Services, or Home and Health Care, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
