Obituary of Elias Grant Farquhar, Jr.

Elias Grant Farquhar, Jr., 55, of Rocky Hill Road, Woodstock, died Monday March 22, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at the Backus Hospital Norwich. Beloved husband of Deborah (Glass) Farquhar; married April 10, 1976. Born September 16, 1954 in Putnam, son of Elias G. and Charlotte (Amidon) Farquhar, Sr. He was a Sales Representative working for the AGC Glass in Fall River, MA. A member of the Putnam Lodge #46, AM & FM in South Woodstock, served as Master in 1999 and was a Trustee; he was involved with many lodge actives. He also served as an advisor for the Israel Putnam Chapter of the DeMolay. Elle was past president of the Blue Lodge Council, a member of the 4 Scottish Rite bodies in the Valley of Norwich and three York Rite bodies of North Windham, served as an officer Trinity Chapter #9 RAM and ST John's Commandery #11 KT. Elle was a member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, serving as a Deacon, Trustee and on other committees and Boards. Elle coached soccer, basketball, baseball and was an umpire. He was active with Boy Scouts, as a Tiger and Cub Scout leader. He served the Town of Woodstock, as a member of the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Association, the Financial Board, Fire Police, EMT and Ambulance Driver. A member of the Woodstock Lions Club, served as president in 2003. Elle served on the Board of the Connecticut Glass Dealers Association for 15 years, and was secretary. He leaves in addition to his wife of 34 years Deborah, his sons Scott Farquhar and his wife Marcia of South Killingly, CT; Ian Farquhar of Woodstock; his adored grandchildren: Mackenzie, Laura, Elias IV, several nieces and nephews. Calling Hours will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. A Memorial Service will be Saturday at 2:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, 543 Route 196, Woodstock, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Deacon's Fund, First Congregational Church, PO Box 147, Woodstock, CT 06281 or Putnam Masonic Lodge # 46, PO Box 46, S.
