Obituary of Maurice B. Renaud

DANIELSON- Maurice (Cubby) Bernard Renaud, 76, of Quinebaug Drive, died Tuesday, March 09, 2010, at home surrounded by family and friends alter a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 26, 1933 in East Brooklyn, Connecticut, the son of the late Leon and Mary Rose Renaud. He was educated in the Killingly Schools District and wed Arlene Guimont of Danielson, on June 2, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church where he was a member for seventy six years. Cubby, as he was warmly known by friends and family, enjoyed golfing, wood working, reading, gardening and cooking. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps 2nd Armored Amphibian Battalion, Camp Lejeune, N.C. from January 1952 to January 1955. He fought in the Korean War from June 1953 to August 1954 where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and awarded a Purple Heart for wounds he received in action. Prior to his military discharge he was awarded the following medals: Korean Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, and Good Conduct Medal. After his military service he worked for a short time with Gilbert Tree Company. Cubby then worked for American Standard from 1958 until his retirement. He is survived by three sons, Richard Renaud of Delta Junction, AK, Gary Renaud of Galloway, NJ and Dennis Renaud of Danielson; two daughters, Debbie Grippo and Joyce Chenette of Danielson; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Two sisters- Dorothy Renaud; Marquerite St Jean, and a brother Robert Renaud all of Brooklyn. He was preceded in death by siblings Victor, Henry, Omer, Edward, Gerard, and Albert Renaud; Theresa Tavernier, Florence Perreault, and Dolores Nichols. Calling hours Saturday March 13, 2010 from 8:30 to 10:30 at Gagnon and Costello Funeral home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson followed by a 11:00 AM Funeral Mass at St, James Catholic Church, Danielson. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson with a reception to follow.
