Obituary of Everett L. Cowley

Maj. Everett Leonard Cowley, USMC ret.

Duty, Honor, Country.  Semper Fi

Born October 15,1931, the fourth of five children to William E. and Margaret Cowley of Quincy, MA. 

Everett was bound to duty.  Duty to the nation, the U.S. Marine Corps and to his loving family.

Everett married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Seddon on Aug. 28, 1948, and the following year he entered The Marine Corps. With more than 30 active years in the Corps, Everett had tours of duty in Korea, Okinawa and 2 tours in Viet Nam.Stateside he was assigned to numerous military bases, offering his wife and two daughters many opportunities to travel and see new sights.

After retirement and years away from his Massachusetts Cowley roots and his closest brother Jack, Everett and his wife returned,finding their forever home in their beloved community ofWoodstock, CT. where they thrived. He was The Post Commander of American Legion, Post 111 in Woodstock for numerous years.  He and many of the Cowley extended familyhappily participated yearly at the Legions’ booth at the Woodstock Fair.  

Retirement brought new career opportunities; that of working with his brother Jack Cowley at The Nether-Lair Kennels, Security at the County hospital and working with the CT Dept. of Corrections.

Over the last several years Everett and Nancy moved to the Westview Commons of Dayville, CT.

Everett was predeceased by his parents, siblings; William, Jack and Dorothy Hemmingway and daughter Elizabeth Carol Woodward (Robert), but is survived by his sister, MarjorieCiaverdone and loving wife, Nancy Seddon Cowley, anddaughter Valorie Louise Cowley (John), three beloved grandchildren; Marc Petz (Laura), Merideth Petz (Scott) and Matthew Petz, as well as two great grandchildren, Everett and Porter Petz.

It is the family’s’ desire that in lieu of flowers, you might make a a donation in Everett’s name to Tunnel To Towers (T2T.org), or to a charitable organization of your choosing.

Private services will be held at a later date. With Full Military Honors.
