Obituary of Ivor Thompson

Ivor Thompson of Woodstock, CT, age 96, died peacefully on November 27, 2017. He was born in London, England on January 4, 1921 to Alfred and Dorothea Thompson. Ivor served in WW ll in the RAF as a fighter pilot, flying Spitfire airplanes. He met and married his wife Sarah Caroline (Sally) Healey during the war. They had a whirlwind, love at first sight meeting in NYC while Ivor was on a layover to Australia. Married 2 weeks after they met at the Little Church around the Corner in NYC they remained together for almost 55 years. Ivor and Sally lived and raised their children in Westport, CT. Ivor worked in NYC as a successful commodity trader in precious metals. After retirement Ivor and Sally spent their time with family and friends moving to Woodstock, CT. Spending summers sailing out of Woods Hole, MA and winters with many projects including woodworking and bee keeping. He enjoyed gardening and sharing pies and bread with friends.

Ivor’s wife, Sally, his eldest daughter, Alexandra Kirkpatrick and grandson, Bradley Kirkpatrick preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Lynn Courcier, son-in-law, Bruce Courcier of Falmouth, MA, son, John Thompson of Chepachet, RI, also his grandchildren, Gregory Kirkpatrick, Rob Courcier, Sarah Courcier, Caitlyn Courcier Crowley, Melissa Thompson Bastin and Amy Thompson Slater. A celebration of Ivor’s life will be held Jan. 6, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Messiah in Woods Hole, MA. Burial will be in Woodstock, CT at a later date to be announced.
